Communications Toolkit for Academics
Registration is now open for Communicating Beyond Journals and Peers: A Communications Workshop for Academics presented by Communications and Brand Strategy and the Media Sandbox (a division of the College of Communication Arts and Sciences).
The workshop will offer academics the foundations needed to communicate your research and scholarly work in a succinct and public manner, as well as providing tools and hands-on exercises to help you refine your communications skills.
In this workshop, you’ll learn:
- How to develop a public communication strategy
- How to determine your communications goals and objectives
- The importance of conveying warmth, listening, competency and identity
- Skills to hone your writing
- Techniques for choosing and focusing your message
- Ways to get your message heard publicly
- How to submit an article to The Conversation
Who Should Attend?
The information is geared toward faculty, doctoral students, and post-docs. Academics from any area on campus are invited to participate as content is beneficial to those who work in all disciplines.
While not designed for college communicators, you may attend alongside a faculty member, but we ask that you do not sign up below. Please contact Jessi Adler if you wish to attend a workshop.
Class size will be limited to 20 participants and each workshop will run 3 hours to allow adequate discussion and activity time.
Workshops are held at the MSU Innovation Center, 325 E. Grand River Ave, East Lansing, Room 300.
