News and Media Communications

Communications and Brand Strategy works with colleges and units throughout the university to promote news stories that align with university-level priorities and brand positioning. We offer assistance with multimedia news packages, media training, and issues management.

Media relations plans

Telling a story effectively takes an understanding of the current media environment, detailed planning, and targeted distribution of news to the right journalists. Communications and Brand Strategy works with units to develop strategic approaches to story placement.

News releases and packages

Media relations experts in Communications and Brand Strategy craft compelling news releases, accompanied by photos, graphics, videos, and podcasts, that best reach MSU's key audiences around the world through online, print, and broadcast media—as well as directly through the MSU News site and the MSU News weekly e-mail.

Media training

The Communications and Brand Strategy media training program provides assistance to units seeking news coverage or responding to media inquiries. The training builds on the expertise of MSU faculty and staff and takes into account not only the latest technologies but also the outlets that work best for media relations within the context of the university’s mission.

Issues management

Communications and Brand Strategy’s media experts help identify and analyze complicated issues that have potential negative impact on the unversity's reputation and develop strategies to ensure that clear and accurate messages are communicated to the right audiences.
