Licensing and Trademarks

MSU's trademarks are registered with the U.S. Office of Patents and Trademarks and the Michigan Secretary of State and are the exclusive property of the MSU Board of Trustees. All those wishing to use MSU symbols for commercial or promotional reasons must get written authorization from University Licensing Programs.

Use of trademarks on promotional items

Use of any university trademark on a promotional/premium item of any type requires prior written approval from University Licensing Programs. This applies to all products, including those designed by students or student groups. For more information, visit licensing.msu.edu. Commercial use of university trademarks

Commercial use of any university trademark, including the manufacture and distribution of all commercial products, typically will require a license from University Licensing Programs.
